Pivot Table for Month of Execution Data

A pivot table (also called a contingency or cross table table) is a statistical method to sort and summarize information. Regarding Salem executions, it counts the number of executions each month during the outbreak.

Using either the Accused Witches Data Set or the Accused Histogram Data Set, select "PivotTable Report" in the Data Menu. Select the button to take data from "Excel list or database." Click "Next." For range, drag through "Month of Execution" column in either data set (include the column label in the selection). Click "Next." Select "Layout" and drag the small "Month of Execution" icon to the "Row" section; then drag another small "Month of Execution" icon to the "Data" section. Double click the "Month of Execution" icon in the "Data" section and select "Count Nums" in the "Summarize by" window. Click "OK" and "Finish." The resulting data cells can be used to construct the scatter plot.

To return to the Execution Scatter Plot page, click Back or Next.
